Music From Elba

1986, Homestead LP. One of my top ten albums ever.

Musicians:
Tim Harris: Bass, guitar, vocals
Tara Key: Guitars, vocals
Wolf Knapp: Bass, vocals
Sean Mulhall: Drums, mouth harp
Danna Pentes (bass player of Fetchin Bones): Violin on "Gordian/Love Knot" and "M.V. Augusta"

Produced by Albert Garzon

Songs:

Side A

San Diego (Key-Harris) 2:53

Gordian/Love Knot (Harris-Key) 2:40

Concord (Knapp) 4:08

Until Now (Knapp-Harris) 3:28

Trouble Net (Knapp/Key) 3:09

M.V. Augusta (Knapp) 5:40

Side B

Fontaine Ferry (Harris) 3:28
Instrumental.
Title refers to an amusement park of some sort in Louisville (read this in "Dark Carnival", a bio of horror director Tod Browning)

In a Glass House (Knapp/Key) 4:03
This also appears on "Wailing Ultimate". My favorite Antietam song--it's hard to beat this one for sheer power.

Camp Folk (Key/Harris) 3:06

War Is (the Health of the State) (Knapp) 2:10
Features a quotation from Faulkner's "The Sound and the Fury"

Good Life (Key) 3:02

The Haunting of Rocky Face Ridge (Knapp/Harris/Key) 4:30

Much as I love "Burgoo" and "Rope a Dope" , this one blows them away. The improved drumming really helps, as does better songwriting, playing, singing, and production. The intensity of "Glass House" and "Rocky Face Ridge" mixes nicely with the humor of "War Is" and "San Diego".
